nyc day 7: apartment secured!
another day, another apartment tour!
I woke up today to go to another 3 bed 1 bath apartment tour in Nolita. This building was a street over from the place I checked out yesterday and was renting for $4400. Did the same walk and checked out the place. The rooms were a bit more spacious than the last apartment, but not that much better. The kitchen was still small and overall not that great.
The broker said he had two other units in the building, both 2 bed 1 baths. The first one we went to was renting for $3695 and the second for $3495. I was the second party to tour the first 2 bed 1 bath. It was stunning.
You first walk into an open kitchen with a decent amount of space and great light. I walked left into the first bedroom and it was the largest bedroom I've seen in all the apartments I've toured with great light. The bathroom looked normal size and the second bedroom was smaller than the first, but had space for a full size bed, small desk, and closet. I knew this apartment was great and definitely saw myself living here.
I asked the broker for the app and left immediately to fill it out. I was reading his email on the way back and saw I could put down the 1st month's rent to take it off the market. I walked back ASAP to get the payment information to send in the rent. I knew that this would be competitive and wanted to jump on this. I walked back and grabbed the office information where I could send payment. I was going there first thing tomorrow.
Then I remembered he said I could pay through Venmo. I went back immediately AGAIN. While walking back, I transferred $2k from my savings to checking so I could send the money ASAP. This was so thrilling. In my head I was thinking, "Am I really sending this guy $3700 right now?" I walked up to the place while people were still touring, grabbed his Venmo, and sent him $3695. My heart was racing sending all that money.
He closed the apartment tour after I sent the money and said "It's yours." Those two words sounded so nice. I shook his hand, told him I would submit the application today, and walked off.
Walking back to the sublease, I felt buyer's remorse. What if there are better places? Did I go over budget? Can I afford this? Did I even get a good deal? These thoughts swirled through my head.
I logically told myself the apartment was great. It checked every box. I even asked the current tenant if there was any problem with the place and she said it was great. Except the sink doesn't drain that quickly if you keep running the water. I initially though she was talking about the bathroom sink, but realize she did not specify which sink. Anyways, the place is great.
I went back home, talked to Mom and Rachel, which alleviated my overthinking, and just chilled the rest of the night. I saw the last minute of the NBA Finals Game 2. The Heat's Cinderella story just keeps coming.
Overall great day, I got an apartment!
