nyc day 6: exploring lower manhattan
another day another apartment tour
This apartment was a 3 bed 1 bath in Nolita which is a pretty prime location. It's a great neighborhood in lower Manhattan with great restaurants, bars, and close metro stops all around. Plus the apartment was going for $4500 which is pretty cheap.
The open house was at 2:30 and I got there early and managed to get into the building at 2:20 because someone in the apartment let me in; however, the broker didn't let me in early. I learned don't go to open houses early and expect to get in early. They always let you in on time.
2:30 rolls around a storm of people enter the building so it must be my time to shine. This was a 5th floor walk up and on the way up, a cute girl who lived there walked down the stairs. That gave an extra plus to the apartment, but also that's kind of weird to get an apartment because someone lives in that building. Kinda stalker like tbh.
Anyways, tour the apartment and it was not the worst. But definitely not the best. The kitchen was small, there was not a large shared space, and the bedrooms were a little small. Good location, 4/10 apartment so it was a no go but I stuck around to hear everyone ask their questions about the place to learn more about renting and application processes.
I eventually left and hadn't really checked out the area yet so I just explored Nolita, Soho, Noho and a bit of Chinatown. This was my ideal place to live because of the mentioned reasons of it being close to restaurants, bars, metros, and young people.
I enjoyed the area walking around, but I can see it does get a little crowded on the weekends since there are a lot of shops and restaurants. After walking around, I needed to pee so I walked to Canal Street Market to use the restroom and grab some food. It was around 5:00 and I had not eaten anything yet. I grabbed Joe's Steam Rice Roll which was pretty good, 8/10.
After eating, I walked over to this ice cream cart affiliated with this restaurant called Ernesto's because this guy was raving over it on TikTok. I paid $9 for a scoop of caramel flan ice cream. I was really expecting to be blown away, but I was quite disappointed. It wasn't bad, but I've noticed these ice cream places that people rave about aren't that sweet. Ice cream was 6.6/10. but a value rating of 1.8/10. Not value.
Went back to the apartment and chilled for a couple hours inside. Then I realized, I'm in NYC. I should do something. I had been feeling like I so different than everyone in these last couple days. But I realized that's BS. I should act the way I want to, despite feeling aloof and that made me feel happy and confident. So I hopped out of bed, walked to the metro, and grabbed 2 slices of margherita pizza before I hopped on the train.
After grabbing the 2 slices and walking back to the train, a homeless guy approached me asking for a dollar or two for a soda. I looked in my wallet and only had a $10. I was such in a good mood, I gave the man the $10 and a fist bump, which he graciously thanked me and told me to have a great night. He was pumped which made me feel happy.
I hitched a ride to Dumbo and headed over to Brooklyn Bridge to watch the Manhattan skyline. It was beautiful! It was my favorite spot when I visited with Jaustin last March and is still stunning. I acknowledged the fact that I did move, and that so much is to come. Cheers to growth.
Called it a night after taking pictures (which did not come out that well) and going back to the apartment
