my first night in NYC
Last night marked my first night moved into NYC.
Flew in to Newark at 10:30pm and took a $90 Uber to the East Village for my first night at my sublet. The drive from New Jersey to Manhattan was amazing! Super nice Uber driver and seeing the lit up Manhattan skyline for the first time was an amazing start to the move. He dropped me off right in front of the apartment. I got buzzed into the apartment and knocked on the door.
No answer.
Knocked again, no answer. Called Cade, the guy I was subleasing from. No answer. It's 11:45pm, I walked up a 4 stories with 3 full suitcases and I'm stuck outside someone's apartment. Kept knocking, no answers. Called the guy 3 times and shot him a text, finally responds. He tells me to call his roommate Timmy who should be there. Call Timmy, no answer.
Call Timmy 3 more times and shoot him a text. No answer. UNTIL 10 minutes later, he calls me back! He says he's not home. lol. But he gives my Nick's number, THE 3RD ROOMMATE. Nick answers my text right away and tells me he'll be there at 1:00am. It's 12:15am.
Honestly I just appreciated the fact that someone was in the area and could let me in. I was already looking at hotels nearby and did not want to spend another $200 after spending $1750 to sublease this place for the month.
In that span of waiting for Nick, I just walked around the East Village. I acquainted myself with the area, grabbed a $2 slice of pepperoni pizza, and finally got back to the apartment at 1:00.
Nick graciously took my luggage into the room, showed me around, and was super friendly and laid back. Nick is 10/10. But I got settled in the room, unpacked my things into the drawer, and realized I did not bring conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, nor a towel. So no showering for me tonight.
This room I'm subleasing is pretty small, but it works. I just chilled out but couldn't sleep. This mattress that I'm on is soft but this blanket is rough and old, so I had a hard time falling asleep. I eventually fell asleep around 3:00AM and woke up the next day at 1:00pm lol.
It's 12:12AM and I'm trying to fix my sleep schedule. I'll write how my first day went tomorrow.
