38: first night at the apartment
today we packed
i woke up this morning and got to packing. today was the day we moved out of the sublease. i packed the rest of my belongings and made my way over to our apartment. this was around 10:00am and it was very hot yet again.
i got to our building, walked the four flights of stairs to get to our apartment, put everything down, and went back downstairs for our amazon packages. i brought the packages back up and saw that some of the items that mom bought us arrived!
we got soap, cleaning spray, a steamer, curtains, dish soap, and toilet paper. very important. after unpacking all the items, i got a notification that my mattress was just delivered so i went back for that behemoth, but made it up the stairs fairly easily.
i opened my mattress and watched it inflate super quickly and that was item #1 for my room! it's coming along 1 step at a time. i cleaned up my room since i had a bunch of boxes and trash from everything we were buying and thought of the next things on my to do list. i then went to target to purchase an ice cube tray and bin for my clippers, which turned into a mini grocery session since i was already there.
one of the wheels on the kitchen island busted off so we needed to buy some screws and tools to fix that, so after relaxing a bit (i was super hot and sweaty) we went on our merry way to home depot. i got help by some lovely gentlemen and picked up 4 screws for the island, allen wrenches, two sets of spare keys with key rings, screws, and a screwdriver.
home depot was in flatiron so not too far from the apartment. the subway was a 14 minute commute and walking was 34 so i opted to save my $2.75 after spending like $51 for my home depot haul. this was in the afternoon so the weather had cooled down and i'm getting accustom to the humidity.
i came back to the apartment, cleaned the island, and screwed back on the wheel to the island. you already know i'm such a handyman. fr though, going to home depot made me feel like i want to be more rugged handyman blue collar. sounds fun to fix and build things.
after cleaning up, i started taking some photos on my camera and doing some editing, then i got hungry. however, i couldn't cook because i didn't have oil or butter for the pans, nor the salad dressing i wanted. so i made a trip.
my plan was to go to hmart, then to the sublease, then back home. it made a perfect loop so i thought the idea was immaculate. i picked up a mango and the salad dressing, went to the sublease to pick up the rest of my food there and i took two pillows, and came back to our apartment.
i made chicken salad and realized that we don't have utensils besides steak knives so i ate with my hands like a true filipino. getting in touch with the culture. after eating and cleaning, i was all sticky from the humidity so i set up the shower curtain, learned how to turn our shower on because there was no pull tab, learned that the pull tab is the bath spout, showered, and now ready to sleep for my first ight in the apartment. things are coming along!
