37: 4th of july
i slept well
after the exhaustion of lugging that kitchen island all the way back to our apartment, i needed to just relax. i laid in bed, cozy as can be, while my forearms felt a soreness they have never experienced.
i got up around 8:30 to bring most of my clothes and nonessentials over to the apartment. i decided tonight would be my last night sleeping in the sublease so i wanted to bring everything that i didn't need. as i walked out the door, i felt the heat immediately.
at 9:00am, it was already 80 degrees sunny and humid. all good though, i had my hat and starting lugging. my luggage wasn't nearly as heavy as the kitchen island so we were all clear to go. i dropped the stuff off, organized my room, and headed back to the sublease.
i chill in bed and get a call from anderson. he just bought an air fryer and called about going to a 4th of july event. we had plans to go to his friend's apartment complex who were hosting a big bbq for the 3 large apartments and guests, but that wasn't until 5:00. anderson and juhee (his friend who we were going to her apartment) were going to another event by a pier. he was asking me if i wanted to go but, it was raining outside!
def did not want to go when it was pouring because that sounds awful. but then i remembered something. the worst experiences make the best memories. just like the kitchen island. so i obliged and if it rained the whole time, at least it would be memorable and funny to look back on
at 1:00pm, i pulled up to anderson's place and met up with him and juhee. we chatted until 3:00 and finally decided to head over to the event. it was $25 but we got a drink so it wasn't the worst. there was music with a nice view, but ya boy was starving. i got 2 chicken empanadas for $18 which were not bad, but good for my tummy. we chatted and drank our free margaritas until it hit 5:00 and we dipped to go to the apartment bbq.
there was a nice communal vibe to the bbq. there were mainly families but lots of people from all demographics. we had unlimited bbq and i met amy, juhee's roommate, and we all hung out, talked, ate bbq, drank, and eventually watched fireworks.
the firework show on the river was beautiful and felt like a welcome to new york. while we were watching, i just thought to myself "wow, we're here" it was nice. we went back to their apartment after the show was over and talked some more until we left around 11:15. on the walk back home, i face timed the boys to join the annual 4th of july bbq at frank's house. i missed the boys and it was nice seeing them all, even through the phone. i ate with them on facetime and eventually went to bed but overall, this was a good day.
